Brian J. Dougherty is a partner in Morgan Lewis’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice and is the co-leader of the practice’s Plan Sponsor Task Force. Mr. Dougherty's practice involves all aspects of employee benefits and ERISA, including compliance, plan design and administration, litigation, and executive compensation, including equity compensation, nonqualified arrangements, and employment agreements.
Mr. Dougherty was a partner with Morgan Lewis from 1990 to 2006, and left in 2006 to establish a benefits practice at another firm. Upon his return, he reassumed key roles in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice with respect to retirement plan issues. Mr. Dougherty is also directly involved in transactional work with the firm's Business & Finance Practice.
Before concentrating his practice in employee benefits, Mr. Dougherty practiced in the area of labor and employment law. Reflecting his labor relations background, a substantial portion of Mr. Dougherty's practice involves collectively bargained employee benefits. He represents a number of large- and medium-sized clients in both for-profit and tax-exempt industries.
Mr. Dougherty earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1980 and his B.S., summa cum laude, from Bucknell University in 1977.
