Torsten Schwarze is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Business and Finance Practice and a member of its Securities Practice. Dr. Schwarze has represented financial service institutions, stock and derivatives exchanges, and companies in connection with various capital markets and acquisition finance transactions, regulatory matters, and derivatives law. Dr. Schwarze’s practice is currently focused on structured finance and derivatives matters.

In 2007, Dr. Schwarze was seconded to the firm’s New York office where he focused on securitization and structured finance matters. Dr. Schwarze was involved in several securitization transactions and has helped the firm’s clients in maintaining, obtaining, and, in some cases, restructuring or otherwise working out their investments in different financial products during the capital markets crisis since 2007.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Schwarze worked for a law firm in Leipzig. During 1999 and 2000, he completed parts of his legal internship in Morgan Lewis’s Washington, D.C. office. He also worked for a period of 12 months in the legal department of a large international investment bank where he concentrated on capital markets and derivatives law and securitizations.

Dr. Schwarze is an author of the German section of Thomson's "Securities Transactions in Europe" and of a number of articles on finance-related topics.

Dr. Schwarze studied law at the University of Leipzig and the University of Stockholm. He received his LL.M. from the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Germany in 1999 after completing graduate studies in business law. Dr. Schwarze concluded his legal training by passing his Second State Examination in Leipzig in June 2000 and has been practicing law since. He received his Ph.D. from the Law Faculty of the University of Leipzig in 2003. Dr. Schwarze is fluent in German, English, and Swedish.

Dr. Schwarze is admitted to practice in Germany.
