Alan L. Reed serves as counsel to Morgan Lewis's Energy Practice. He was a partner of the firm from 1969 to 2000.

Mr. Reed has represented companies on a variety of corporate and regulatory matters for more than 40 years. His corporate background has involved a wide range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, governance and general corporate advice for such companies as Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., Philadelphia Suburban Corporation, Exelon Corporation (formerly PECO Energy Company) and Severn Trent plc. Mr. Reed’s principal background concerning regulatory matters has involved representing electric and water companies. He served as lead counsel for PECO Energy Company and Pennsylvania Power Company in numerous proceedings before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and in various appeals before the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He also has participated in appeals before the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Mr. Reed has represented two of the largest investor-owned water utilities in the United States, American Water Works Company, Inc. and Philadelphia Suburban Corporation.

Active in a variety of leadership roles in professional organizations, Mr. Reed served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy for three years. Mr. Reed is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of the National Constitution Center, of which he is a Vice Chairman and leader of its campaign within the legal community nationally, and is a member of the board of directors of the Philadelphia Orchestra Association.
