William H. Gorrod is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Tax Practice. Mr. Gorrod focuses his practice on state and local tax issues, including controversy, planning, and compliance matters. His areas of focus include state and local income and franchise taxes, bank taxes, gross receipts taxes, unincorporated business taxes, sales and use taxes, and telecommunications taxes, as well as federal universal service fund contribution requirements.
Mr. Gorrod has assisted clients with multistate tax planning and audit defense in various jurisdictions, including New York State, New York City, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Texas. In addition, he has assisted clients with voluntary disclosure agreements, penalty abatements, and amnesties. Mr. Gorrod has also assisted clients with New York State and New York City administrative appeals.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Gorrod was a manager in the state and local tax practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York. His clients included large corporations, flow-through entities, and high net worth individuals in various industries, including the financial services, telecommunications, media, energy, airline, and insurance industries.
Mr. Gorrod received his LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law in 2009. He received his J.D., with a concentration in taxation, from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2006, where he was a member of the Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law. Mr. Gorrod received his M.B.A., magna cum laude, from North Carolina Central University in 2002 and his B.S. in business management, with a concentration in finance, from North Carolina State University in 2001.
