Melissa Furrer Miller is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Ms. Miller's practice focuses on complex business and commercial litigation. She has experience in a broad range of substantive areas, including commercial contract disputes, commercial torts, class action defense, antitrust actions, qui tam actions, and appellate matters. Ms. Miller has represented clients in both federal and state court proceedings, as well as in commercial arbitration proceedings.
Recent representations include:
- Representation of an Asian airline carrier in its global internal investigation, civil litigation, and related criminal prosecution by the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division
- Representation of a retail pharmacy chain in several state class actions and in a related state court action against its codefendants, as well as in numerous commercial disputes in state and federal court
- Representation of a student loan guarantor in a qui tam action
- Pro bono representation of a group of amici in an appeal related to a state statute regarding housing discrimination
Ms. Miller clerked for Judge Gary L. Lancaster of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. During her clerkship, Ms. Miller handled substantive civil and criminal litigation issues, as well as discovery and procedural matters.
Ms. Miller has taught as an adjunct professor at George Washington University School of Law's International LL.M. Program, teaching Fundamentals of U.S. Law: Legal Research and Writing.
Ms. Miller received her J.D., cum laude, from Duquesne University School of Law in 1999. While in law school, she was the editor-in-chief of the Duquesne Law Review and was the 1999 recipient of the Distinguished Student Award, conferred by faculty vote. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993.
