Robert A. Dufek is Morgan Lewis's Managing Partner – Practice, and a member of the four person Management Committee of the Firm. He is responsible for approximately 800 lawyers in the Firm’s Litigation, Labor and Employment, Employee Benefits, Antitrust, Patent and Copyright, Trademark practice groups.
Mr. Dufek is also a partner in the Labor and Employment Practice at Morgan Lewis, which has more than 190 attorneys in eleven offices throughout the United States. Mr. Dufek's practice focuses on all aspects of labor relations, employee benefits and employment law. Mr. Dufek’s primary emphasis is in the negotiation and administration of single- and multi-employer collective bargaining agreements in an array of industries, including public utilities, coal, U.S. Postal Service, trucking, air freight, healthcare, food service, publishing and professional sports. He has extensive experience with pension, and health and welfare funds, including the cost critical issues of retiree healthcare, healthcare cost containment, conversion from defined benefit to cash balance plans and coverage of independent contractors. He also has experience in labor litigation in both federal and state courts, and in both rights and interest arbitrations under collective bargaining agreements. He recently served as the USPS-appointed neutral in an interest arbitration covering 375,000 employees affiliated with the APWU and testified before the Presidential Commission on the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Dufek was a member and editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Subsequently, he served as an Adjunct Professor for over 10 years teaching courses in Labor Law, Recent Trends in Collective Bargaining, Labor Arbitration and Employment Law. He served as the Chairman of the Board of the Providence Health Foundation, which is affiliated with Providence Hospital, the oldest hospital in Washington, DC.
Mr. Dufek is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
