John L. Hemmer is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Hemmer focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. He also counsels clients on new product clearance, due diligence, patentability analyses, and technology licensing and collaboration agreements.

Mr. Hemmer has advised clients in areas such as medical devices, consumer products, e-commerce, and business methods.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Hemmer was associated with a Philadelphia intellectual property boutique firm, where he focused on patent prosecution—primarily on the mechanical arts. Before that, he was associated with a prominent international law firm in its intellectual property practice.

Mr. Hemmer is actively involved in pro bono work for the Homeless Advocacy Project.

Mr. Hemmer received his J.D. from Temple University, Beasley School of Law in 2006, where he was an associate editor for the Temple Journal of Science Technology and Environmental Law and a member of the intellectual property moot court team. He received his B.S., magna cum laude, in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University’s Schreyer Honors College in 2003.

Mr. Hemmer is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey.
