Michael F. Derksen is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Mr. Derksen focuses his practice on the representation of clients in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on insurance coverage litigation and general business disputes. His insurance coverage counseling spans a wide range of topics, including directors' and officers' liability insurance, first-party property liability, environmental liability, and asbestos liability claims.

In his general commercial litigation practice, Mr. Derksen has represented and counseled in a variety matters, including general commercial business disputes, breach-of-contract actions, actions sounding in bankruptcy, class action defense, white collar defense, False Claims Act lawsuits, litigation related to outsourcing, actions brought under the Truth In Lending Act (TILA), and actions brought under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Mr. Derksen earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2008. While in law school, he was a Law School Centennial Cornerstone Scholar and played guitar in the University of Chicago Law School's theatrical comedy sketch group. Mr. Derksen earned his B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan in 2005, where he was a Lloyd Hall Scholar and co-hosted/produced the student-run television show Michigan Football 2004.

Mr. Derksen has also lectured at continuing legal education courses on various insurance coverage and commercial litigation issues.

Mr. Derksen is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
