William L. Gardner is senior counsel and former partner in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Mr. Gardner's practice focuses on white collar defense matters.

Mr. Gardner concentrates on the defense of corporate and individual clients in grand jury and Congressional investigations, and trials and appeals resulting therefrom. He and his colleagues frequently conduct sensitive internal investigations for corporations and tax-exempt organizations. He has been lead counsel in a variety of major trial and appellate cases involving health care fraud, environmental crimes, financial institution fraud, securities fraud, tax fraud, and procurement fraud.

Before joining the firm in 1984, Mr. Gardner held several posts with the U.S. government, including Chief of the Criminal Civil Rights Section, U.S. Department of Justice in the President Carter administration (1976-1979). In that capacity, he headed a group of 25 trial lawyers who prosecuted public officials in federal courts throughout the country.

Mr. Gardner has lectured extensively on white collar criminal defense matters, including internal corporate and federal grand jury investigations, and has taught trial advocacy at the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute and the Hastings Center for Trial and Appellate Advocacy.

Mr. Gardner is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Massachusetts.
