Jackson "Jack" Matney, Jr. is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Matney focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, prosecution, and counseling, particularly in the area of patents. In addition, he frequently advises clients regarding due diligence, licensing, trademark, copyright, and trade secret issues.
Mr. Matney has experience with patent matters involving a wide variety of technical subjects, including chemotherapy compounds and treatments, pharmaceuticals, textiles, tissue cleaning, packaging and implantation, medical devices, silver-impregnated wound gauzes, sheet metal processing, blood glucose meters, heating packs, catalysts, automotive components, paper converting machines, software and Internet-related inventions, video display devices, check valves and associated enclosures, dye formulations, semiconductor manufacturing, laser treatments, telephonic switching devices, thermoplastic extrusion and molding, adhesive bonding, and air and water pollution treatment devices. He also has prosecuted trademark applications and handled cybersquatting and typo-squatting matters before both federal courts and WIPO panels.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Matney was a partner in the intellectual property group of a large international law firm. Prior to entering private practice, he was an examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and an engineer for The Dow Chemical Company.
Mr. Matney received his J.D., with honors, from George Washington University Law School in 1995; his M.B.A. from Central Michigan University in 1988; and his B.S. in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1985. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia.
Mr. Matney is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
