Derek E. León

Derek E. León is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice and co-chairs the firm's Retail Practice Group. Mr. León's practice focuses on complex business litigation, including large contract and business tort disputes, intellectual property matters, insurance recovery, financial institution defense, as well as mass tort and product liability defense. He serves as national coordinating counsel for major firm clients and leads the firm's intellectual property disputes and product liability practices in Florida, while maintaining an active business litigation practice throughout Florida and Texas.

Mr. León has extensive first chair trial experience in both state and federal court, as well as first chair arbitration experience in national and international arbitration forums. He has also handled several appeals to both state and federal courts.

Mr. León also devotes time to various pro bono and community activities. He serves as the General Counsel of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, a Washington, D.C., nonprofit and nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that provides leadership development programs and educational services to Latino students and young emerging leaders. In 2007, Mr. León founded LegalLine of Miami-Dade, a free and anonymous legal advice community hotline sponsored by the Dade County Bar Association.

Mr. León earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 1997, and his B.A. in history from Florida State University in 1993.

Mr. León is admitted to practice in Florida and Texas and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Florida and the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.
