Victor N. Balancia is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Balancia is a trial lawyer and patent counsel with a practice focused principally on the litigation of complex patent infringement cases. He has represented some of the largest U.S. and foreign companies in contested matters involving such technologies as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, consumer personal care and household products, semiconductor chemicals, water treatment technologies, chemicals and materials, electronic controllers, chemiluminescence, dental tools and appliances, catalysts, mechanical devices, consumer packaging, and trade dress, among others.

Mr. Balancia has acted as trial counsel before several federal trial courts throughout the United States, including the District Courts for New York, California, Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey, Arizona, and Minnesota and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, to name a few. He also has acted as lead trial counsel in arbitration cases before arbitration panels convened under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association and has acted as lead trial counsel in investigations instituted by the International Trade Commission.

In addition to litigation, Mr. Balancia counsels clients in developing international and domestic intellectual property strategies, including prosecution, licensing, and enforcement methods involving patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. Mr. Balancia also has an extensive background in reissues and re-exams, as well as interference practice.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Balancia was a partner at a leading intellectual property boutique, where he litigated several patent, trademark, and trade secret cases, acting for both plaintiffs and defendants.

In 1989, Mr. Balancia earned his LL.M. in trade regulation from New York University School of Law. He earned his J.D. in 1983 from St. John's University School of Law and his B.S. in pharmacy from the Long Island University School of Pharmacy in 1980. Mr. Balancia was appointed an adjunct professor of law at New York Law School, resident in New York.

Mr. Balancia is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
