Craig A. Stanfield is an associate in Morgan Lewis’s Litigation Practice. He focuses his practice on commercial, products liability, and constitutional litigation at both the trial and appellate level. He regularly represents clients in both state and federal courts throughout the nation from state district courts to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Stanfield has represented a variety of individuals and corporations at the trial level, handling every aspect of the case. His experience covers a range of industries, including computer software, aviation, financial services, energy, manufacturing, automotive, chemical, and food, among others. He routinely takes a lead role in developing the strategy for his cases and tailoring discovery efforts and motion practice to resolve cases early. In addition, he has also represented clients at trial, including as lead counsel. Mr. Stanfield also uses his background in appellate work to effectively position cases for favorable resolution on appeal, including preserving error and preparing jury charges.

Mr. Stanfield also maintains an active appellate practice. He has litigated appeals in both state and federal appellate courts, including before both the U.S. and Texas Supreme Courts. He has represented clients successfully on direct appeal, and also litigates in original mandamus and interlocutory proceedings.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Stanfield was a briefing attorney for the Fourteenth Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Stanfield received his J.D., cum laude, from American University, Washington College of Law in 2005, where he was a Dean's Fellow and a member of the Moot Court team that won the 2004 Niagara Cup International Moot Court Competition and the Best Respondent Team Argument. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, in economics and international studies from Texas A&M University in 2001. Mr. Stanfield also studied at Moscow State University.

Mr. Stanfield is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas.

  • Represented an individual plaintiff in breach of contract and fraud case, as lead trial counsel and secured favorable jury verdict on all theories.
  • Represented a major software company in a breach of contract and fraud suit, focusing on complex briefing and legal issues.
  • Representing a leading aircraft manufacturer in multiple wrongful death suits arising out of aircraft accidents, handling all aspects of strategy and discovery.
  • Represented a leading aircraft manufacturer in personal injury suits in Louisiana and Texas, handling discovery and managing experts; secured summary judgment on all claims.
  • Represented a major aircraft manufacturer in a commercial dispute over 18 aircrafts; handled all discovery and obtained complete dismissal of all claims with prejudice.
  • Representing a major financial services company in various federal district courts and before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in a case raising issues related to breach of contract and administrative remedies, focusing on complex motions and appellate briefing.
  • Representing an international oil services company in multiple wrongful death cases, handling motions and appellate briefing.
  • Represented a prime NASA contractor both at trial and before a court of appeals in an employment case, serving as second-chair at trial; secured directed verdict that was affirmed on appeal.
  • Represented a manufacturer as plaintiff in a breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and fraudulent inducement action, securing favorable summary judgment ruling, handling discovery, strategy, and briefing.
