Ronald S. Fernando is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Fernando focuses his practice on patent procurement, technology licensing, IP due diligence studies, and strategic IP portfolio management.

Mr. Fernando also has experience with intellectual property issues in emerging economies. In 2008, he spent a term at the National Law School of India University in Bangalore, India, where he focused on IP issues related to patent protection for software innovations in India. In 2007, Mr. Fernando worked at an IP law boutique in Beijing, where he advised on patent and trade dress matters.

Mr. Fernando earned his J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada in 2009. Prior to attending law school, he practiced as a patent agent in Canada for more than five years. Mr. Fernando earned his M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering from Carleton University in 2001, where he won several academic awards in engineering. His engineering experience includes the CMOS design of a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) and integrated Image Rejection Filter; a thesis titled, "Simplified Joint-Iterative Demodulation and Decoding of M-DPSK Signals Over Rayleigh Flat-Fading Channels"; and developing computer models in C/C++ for modeling wireless communication channels and wireless receivers incorporating complex digital signal processing techniques and design of wireless systems. He earned his B.Eng. from Carleton University in 1999.

Mr. Fernando is admitted to practice in California and New York and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a registered Canadian patent agent.
