Elizabeth M. "Beth" Bedell is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice. Ms. Bedell defends clients involved in employment litigation matters, including wage and hour compliance; all types of alleged discrimination, harassment, and retaliation; wrongful discharge; and enforcement of noncompetition and other employment agreements.
Ms. Bedell defends employers in disputes involving the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, Title VII, state antidiscrimination laws, federal and state whistleblowing statutes, and state tort law. She also assists employers in the preparation and enforcement of employment, noncompetition, and confidentiality agreements and advises management regarding compliance with a wide variety of state and federal employment laws and regulations.
Ms. Bedell has successfully obtained dismissals of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and disability claims on summary judgment. She also regularly gives presentations and training on ADA, FLSA, and FMLA issues and assists employers in drafting employment policies and handbooks.
Ms. Bedell serves as an active member of the American Bar Association (EEO Committee of the Labor & Employment Section) and the Dallas Area Young Lawyers Leadership Class. She serves as a sustaining member and committee co-chair for Attorneys Serving the Community, a charitable organization in Dallas. She also participated in pro bono service as a prosecutor for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, where she tried more than 20 misdemeanor cases.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Bedell was an associate at a leading international law firm. Before pursuing her legal career, she was a human resource specialist with the State of Texas.
Ms. Bedell earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2004, where she was named to the Order of the Coif, served as editor-in-chief for the SMU Law Review, and was a member of the Labor & Employment Moot Court team. She received her B.B.A., with honors, in business management from the University of Texas in 2001.
Ms. Bedell is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Sixth Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.
