Matthew Kalinowski

Associate

Matthew Kalinowski is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Mr. Kalinowski's practice is concentrated in the representation of companies and individuals in all aspects of complex civil litigation, with a focus on international commercial dispute resolution.

Recent and ongoing representations include:

• Defending a Mexican phosphoric acid distribution company in a supply-contract dispute filed in the I.C.C. International Court of Arbitration, resulting in the Argentinean plaintiff's voluntary dismissal of its claim for arbitration.
• Representing a company faced with multiple securities lawsuits regarding redemption of the company's preferred stock.
• Defending a former high-level government official in complex civil rights litigation stemming from alleged mistreatment of detainees during the investigation following the events of September 11, 2001.
• Successfully convincing an immigration court to reopen a closed case for a client from El Salvador seeking asylum in the United States.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Kalinowski served as a law clerk to the senior judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

Mr. Kalinowski received his J.D., with honors, from George Washington University Law School in 2005. While in law school, Mr. Kalinowski interned at the Torts Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice and at the New York County District Attorney's Office. Prior to law school, he worked as a sales representative in the IT industry, and before that, as a journalist. He received his B.A. from the University of California, San Diego in 1999. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

Mr. Kalinowski is a member of the American Bar Association Section of International Law (International Commercial Dispute Resolution Committee) and Section of Litigation (International Litigation Committee).

Mr. Kalinowski is admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
