Charles P. O'Connor is senior counsel in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice. Mr. O'Connor served as a partner with the firm for 32 years, from 1971 until 2003. From 2003 through 2008, he accepted a temporary assignment to serve as senior vice president and general counsel of Maersk, the U.S. subsidiary of the Danish conglomerate AP Moeller-Maersk. In 2009, Mr. O'Connor returned to Morgan Lewis as senior counsel.
Mr. O'Connor's practice focuses on labor-management relations, particularly collective bargaining. In the private sector, he has represented companies engaged in the transportation industry, including the trucking, warehousing, and maritime industries. Mr. O'Connor participated in the negotiations of the National Teamster Trucking Contract for more than 30 years. Similarly, Mr. O'Connor participated in the negotiation of the first National Master Brewery contract, the National Bituminous Coal Agreement, and the West Coast Pacific Maritime Long Shore Agreement, as well as similar regional and local single- and multiemployer negotiations. In the public sector, Mr. O'Connor's experience ranges from participation in the first National Postal Agreement to representation of local and municipal employers in negotiations with teachers and other municipal workers. In addition, Mr. O'Connor's experience includes extensive work in the employee benefits area, particularly employee benefits derived out of collective bargaining with particular emphasis on pension and health benefit issues.
Recently, Mr. O'Connor's labor-management experience has included extensive dealings in the international labor area, particularly involving employers engaged in the various transportation modes.
Mr. O'Connor is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Massachusetts and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
