Thomas D. Kohler is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice, resident in the San Francisco office. Mr. Kohler focuses his practice primarily on procuring intellectual property and counseling clients in diverse technologies, particularly medical devices. He also has litigated numerous patent cases involving medical devices, consumer products, marine technology and computer peripherals. Specifically, Mr. Kohler has formulated methods for the development and management of worldwide intellectual property portfolios. He has procured patents and developed and executed litigation strategies for enforcement of those patents, including successful resolution of reexaminations filed by defendants.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Kohler was a partner at Pennie & Edmonds, a leading intellectual property boutique, where he led that firm’s Mechanical Technologies Practice from 1998 to 2000.
Mr. Kohler earned his LL.M., with merit, from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1989. He earned his J.D. from the College of William and Mary, Marshal-Wythe School of Law in 1988 and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University in 1983.
Mr. Kohler is admitted to practice in California, New York, and Connecticut and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
