Byungcheol "Byung" Kwak, Ph.D., is a patent agent in Morgan Lewis’s Intellectual Property Practice. Dr. Kwak focuses his practice on patent preparation and prosecution in various fields, including the automotive industry. Dr. Kwak also assists the Patent Practice with opinion work and litigation, as well as patent research and third-party intellectual property rights.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Kwak worked as a patent engineering specialist involved in patent research, patent drafting and prosecution, and due diligence of patents at the DEKA Research & Development Corporation for Dean Kamen in New Hampshire.
Dr. Kwak was also a senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Evaluation and Planning (KIITEP) for five years. He was involved in technology analyses, assessments, technology transfers, and assessment of damages of patent in the field of mechanical engineering and automation for the national research projects of the Korea Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy.
Prior to entering the field of intellectual property, Dr. Kwak was a joint researcher with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Metals and participated in the development of a high-speed and high-precision electromagnetic bearing system, the national project of the Korea Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy for two years.
