Richard F. Trecartin is senior counsel in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Trecartin's practice focuses on patents with an emphasis in biotechnology, clean technology, and nanotechnology; intellectual property portfolio management; freedom to operate, invalidity, and noninfringement opinions; and intellectual property due diligence. Mr. Trecartin has represented universities and startups, as well as emerging and public companies.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Trecartin was a partner in the patent group at a large international law firm and was the managing partner of its San Francisco office.
Mr. Trecartin earned his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1983 and his B.S. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1970.
Mr. Trecartin is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
