Douglas Tan is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice. Mr. Tan provides advice and counseling to clients on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation, including compliance and relation to the Internal Revenue Code.
Mr. Tan focuses his practice primarily on the fringe benefit aspect of executive compensation and has drafted, edited, and finalized memorandums and briefs relating to Section 132 and corporate air travel benefit exclusions from employee gross income. He also has experience in the drafting and review of client responses to IRS Notice of Proposed Adjustments dealing specifically with working condition, no-additional-cost services, and de minimis fringe benefit exemptions from employer FICA, FUTA, and FITW taxes.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Tan worked as a summer associate in the corporate departments of an international law firm and a Taiwan law firm in 2008.
Mr. Tan received his LL.M, with distinction, in taxation in 2011 and his J.D. in 2010 from Georgetown University Law Center. He received his B.S., magna cum laude, in international economics from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 2007, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Tan is fluent in Mandarin for both reading and writing.
