Jeffrey G. Killian, Ph.D. is partner in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Dr. Killian focuses his practice on assisting companies and inventors in securing and enforcing patent protection for their inventions. He works with both large companies and universities (and their start-up companies) preparing patent applications across a broad range of technologies including materials science, solid-state physics, organic conductor/semiconductors, charge storage devices and electrochemistry, and nanotechnology. Dr. Killian also represents clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, regularly counsels clients in intellectual property opinions, and enforces clients' intellectual property rights in litigation matters both in district courts and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also has assisted with international enforcement of patent rights in Europe and in China.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Killian was an associate in the intellectual property group of a national general practice law firm and, before that, in an intellectual property boutique law firm. He has published many papers in the field of polymer-based charge storage and is a named co-inventor on four U.S. patents.
Dr. Killian earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004, and a M.S. and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1997 and 2000, respectively. Prior to earning his doctorate and law degrees, he served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear powered submarine officer. Dr. Killian earned his S.B. in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1989.
Dr. Killian is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
