Shortly after the November 7, 2006 election, we reported on “Measure F,” which was approved by more than 60% of San Francisco, California residents. Measure F enacted a “Sick Leave Ordinance” (the Ordinance) that requires all employers to provide paid sick time benefits to their employees who work within the City and County of San Francisco (collectively, San Francisco). Please click here to view our November 13, 2006 LawFlash on Measure F, which discussed the implications of the Ordinance.
The Ordinance will take effect on February 5, 2007. Between now and that time, employers who have employees working in San Francisco should take action to comply with the Ordinance as of the effective date. Such actions may include adopting a new paid sick time policy that complies with the Ordinance, revising existing paid-time-off benefit (e.g., vacation, sick, PTO) policies, or a combination of both.
