SAN FRANCISCO and LOS ANGELES, February 18, 2015: The Daily Journal publications in California have selected a $131.2 million verdict secured by a team of Morgan Lewis litigators as one of the Top 10 Largest Plaintiffs' Verdicts in 2014 by dollar amount. The verdict has also been singled out by Law360 as one of the year’s Top Intellectual Property Awards.

In the case, which had been litigated since 2007, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California jury agreed with our partner Daniel Johnson Jr. that Cochlear Ltd., the world's largest seller of implantable cochlear devices, had infringed two patents owned by the Alfred E. Mann Foundation for Scientific Research. The patents cover path-breaking work on implants that restore hearing to patients with nonfunctional inner ears.

For his work on the case, the Daily Journal also previously named Dan Grunfeld, who is a leader of the firm’s West Coast litigation efforts, to its 2014 “Top 100 Lawyers in California” list. Joining Mr. Grunfeld and Mr. Johnson as co-lead counsel in the case was Morgan Lewis partner Michael Lyons of the firm’s Silicon Valley office.
