Monday, January 28, 2013

BOSTON, January 28, 2013: Morgan Lewis announced today that Mark B. Stein—an accomplished transactional lawyer who focuses on private equity and venture capital investments often in the life sciences and healthcare industries—has joined the firm in its Business and Finance Practice, resident in the firm's Boston office. His arrival continues the firm's growth in Boston and adds depth to the firm's private equity and healthcare transactions practices.

"With healthcare, finance and higher education being the three largest industries in Boston, the region is fertile ground for the growth of healthcare, drug and medical device companies," said Firm Chair Francis M. Milone. "Mark's experience working with private equity and venture funds in healthcare, life sciences and other industries will serve our clients in this region and elsewhere well."

"Our healthcare and life sciences practices offer a full-spectrum of services to our clients in those industries, and Mark's well-established practice will complement and strengthen them," noted Charles E. Engros, Leader of the firm's Business and Finance Practice.

Mr. Stein focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital transactions, and the general representation of operating companies. He serves as outside general counsel to companies in a range of industries in addition to healthcare and life sciences, including software and other information technologies, consumer products, and B2B and B2C e-commerce.  Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Stein was a partner in the corporate practice of another international law firm. Mr. Stein has also served as executive director of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment and as a foreign service officer with the U.S. State Department.

Jonathan K. Bernstein, Managing Partner of the Boston office added, "Mark's addition further broadens the Business and Finance Practice in Boston-most notably in the corporate, M&A and private equity fund investment areas. We're pleased to see further growth in this practice soon after our acquisition last spring of the energy-focused private equity investment practice of Rick Filosa and Mitch Carroll."

Mr. Stein joins a Business and Finance team that spans the United States, Europe, and Asia, with more than 300 transactional lawyers who focus on a wide variety of areas, including finance, bankruptcy and restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and capital markets.
