Amanda Williamson focuses her practice on complex intellectual property litigation in the life sciences industry relating to pharmaceuticals, biologics, biosimilars, and medical devices. Clients have entrusted Amanda to handle patent litigation involving products generating more than $1 billion in revenue per year and “bet-the-company” cases.

Amanda has experience representing companies in US District Courts across the country, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as well as other circuit courts, and the International Trade Commission (ITC). Amanda also works with clients on post-grant proceedings, including inter partes reviews and ex parte reexamination, and provides clients with strategic advice on patent portfolio management, freedom to operate analysis, and IP due diligence.

Outside of the life sciences, Amanda has been involved in patent infringement cases with a variety of technologies, including mining equipment, RFID capable devices, networked devices and related software, cellular devices and related features and functionalities, and standard essential wireless technologies.

Following law school, Amanda served as a judicial law clerk to Judge James B. Zagel of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She also previously worked as a consultant at an accounting firm, where she assisted financial expert witnesses in analyzing and calculating damages in cases involving patent infringement and breach of contract claims.

Selected Representations

  • Representing patent holder and leading provider of hemophilia products in multi-jurisdictional patent infringement suit involving a bispecific antibody treatment for hemophilia.
  • Served as trial counsel representing patent owner in the ITC in dispute regarding method of manufacturing recombinant factor VIII. Served as trial counsel representing patent owner in the ITC in dispute regarding method of manufacturing recombinant factor VIII, a billion dollar pharmaceutical product. Successfully obtained summary determination of infringement before the final hearing. The case settled favorably after the ITC ruled in client’s favor on domestic industry on appeal, validity, and infringement.
  • Represented medical products company in the Eastern District of Texas in patent infringement case relating to features of the company’s website that settled favorably for the client. 
  • Represented biopharmaceutical company in due diligence involving TYK2 inhibitors.
  • Prepared invalidity analysis for biotech company relating to the manufacture of recombinant factor VIII.
  • Represented a printer and device manufacturer in the Northern District of Illinois in 16 patent infringement dispute involving seminal RFID technologies and printer networking software.  The case settled favorably after Markman proceedings.
  • Represented generic drug manufacturer in Lanham Act false advertising case in the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Trial and appellate counsel for cellphone manufacturer in a 19-patent, multi-district patent litigation (Western District of Wisconsin, District of Delaware, and Southern District of Florida) and 337 investigation involving standard essential patents relating to wireless networking and cellphone features and functionality.
  • Trial and appellate counsel for cellphone manufacturer in an antitrust and breach of contract matter in the Western District of Wisconsin concerning standard-essential patent licensing practices.
  • Represented a Fortune 100 Internet-based retailer in a copyright dispute in the Northern District of Illinois and obtained dismissal of the case. 
  • In pro bono matters, acted as lead appellate counsel for previously removed alien in his appeal before the Seventh Circuit, as well as a criminal defendant in a state post-conviction challenge to the constitutionality of his life-without-parole sentence as a minor under Graham v. Florida.
