Brad Wilson focuses his practice on intellectual property (IP) counseling and prosecution. Brad prepares and prosecutes US and international patents in the areas of commercial and government satellite systems, satellite imaging, satellite communications, laser systems, intraocular lenses, intraocular surgical devices, infusion pumps, infusion components, disposable IV sets, ventilator systems and components, drug dispensing and packaging systems, biological testing devices, COVID-19 test devices, antennas, cellular mobile devices, cellular infrastructure, semiconductors, semiconductor fabrication equipment, sensors, ubiquitous sensor networks, radio-frequency identification (RFID) devices, robotics, wireless power, LED devices, and sports equipment.

Brad also prosecutes US and international patents in the areas of beverage containers, toys, distributed computing software, network/internet security applications, internet cloud applications, and mobile device apps.

Corporate mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic alliances and licensing agreements are often based on IP assets, and Brad provides IP due diligence counseling from IP licensing to complete company acquisitions. He also provides IP portfolio management and strategic planning counseling, as well as freedom to operate and validity/invalidity opinions.

While in law school, Brad was awarded a three-year Dean’s Merit Scholarship. He also earned a master’s of management in marketing and finance and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology.

Selected Representations

  • Found a potential buyer for a client’s unwanted patent portfolio and provided IP counseling for the subsequent sale and licensing of the client’s patents to the buyer
  • A startup wireless power company in obtaining issuance of 23 essential patents, some of which were quickly asserted in a patent infringement action against a leading global mobile device provider
  • Hosted an IP showcase meeting with several investment firms to assist a client in obtaining a vital round of financing
  • Seventeen supervisory patent examiners in putting together and hosting a product and technology education showcase at a major medical device company
  • A leading medical device provider in obtaining issuance of hundreds of patents in competitive product areas
  • A startup medical device company in preparing and obtaining multiple patents that served as the cornerstone of both defensive and offensive patent infringement actions for the company
  • Various clients without means in providing pro bono representation, including cases for immigrant detention, COVID-19-related detainee releases to home confinement, prisoner sentencing reduction to meet current guidelines, prisoner appeals at the  Seventh Circuit, preparation and filing of tax returns for low-income people, student disability rights at schools, and college preparation mentoring for low-income high school students
  • Provided essential IP due diligence counseling for a $267 million company acquisition made primarily for the IP assets
  • One of the largest technology companies in the world in obtaining issuance of dozens of core technology patents 
  • A leading sports equipment company in taking over and obtaining issuance of a family of patents that led to a successful patent infringement win against the largest competitor
