Crystal R. Axelrod concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation, including disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, business competition, consumer protection, securities violations, patent infringement, and medical sales practices. Crystal also advises in bankruptcy litigation. Crystal has experience representing clients in actions brought by State Attorneys General, and in internal investigations for compliance with anticorruption, bribery, and securities laws. She represents clients in medical device, pharmaceutical, financial services, energy, and retail industries in federal and state court as well as in alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Crystal handles all phases of litigation, from inception through complex discovery, trial, and the appeals process. As part of her active pro bono practice, Crystal represented a limited liability company and its owner as first chair in a state court trial involving breach of contract and veil piercing allegations, which culminated in dismissal of claims in her clients’ favor.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Crystal was a law clerk to Judge Craig A. Gargotta of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas. She also was a summer law clerk to Judge Jay A. Garcia-Gregory of the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
Crystal interned while in law school at the US Attorney’s Office in Boston, the SEC in Miami, and the legal department of a Fortune 100 insurance company. Prior to law school, Crystal worked as a licensed banking and investment specialist for a global financial institution.
Defending a multinational pharmaceutical company against an action brought by the State Attorney General alleging off-label promotion and illegal kickbacks in violation of the False Claims Act.
Conducting an internal investigation for a US medical device manufacturer to ensure compliance with anticorruption and bribery laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”).
Designing policies for a Fortune 50 retail provider to ensure compliance with the FCPA, anti-money laundering, anticorruption, and privacy laws.
Defending a multinational banking and consumer lending institution against fraudulent conveyance and preference claims asserted by the Chapter 11 Trustee in an adversary proceeding in federal bankruptcy court, resulting in a favorable settlement for the client.
Representing a leading national technology provider against allegations of breach of contract, fraud, and negligence in federal district court, resulting in dismissal of claims at summary judgment.
Representing one of the world’s largest banks in response to a federal regulatory investigation regarding alleged violations of consumer financial protection laws.
