Derek Simmons focuses his practice on investment funds and financial regulatory matters. He also advises on financial regulatory matters relating to the Banking Act and the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, with matters concerning the formation, registration, and operation of investment funds. Derek assists investors across many jurisdictions who are promoting infrastructure funds, hedge funds, and private equity funds in Japan.
Specialising in cross-border financings, Derek handles transactional and general corporate matters, including securities law compliance, investment funds, mergers and acquisitions, underwritten public offerings, private equity financings, and venture capital transactions.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Derek acted as general counsel for two funds specializing in development finance in sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. He also has experience in project, asset and real estate finance, acting for both sponsors/borrowers and lenders.
