Gary Slaiman focuses his practice on legislative matters as well as representing clients subject to congressional oversight and investigations and on various other issues before congressional committees and commissions, including telecommunications, antitrust, financial services, litigation reform, environment, energy, sports, consumer protection, intellectual property and copyright, cyber , transportation and aviation, pharmaceuticals, and food. Gary’s practice is especially focused on the House and Senate Judiciary committees and the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee.
Gary previously served as chief counsel and staff director for the US Senate Labor and Human Resources Subcommittee on Labor. He directed the subcommittee’s activities on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reform; pension and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) matters; employment and training; healthcare reform; North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and Railway Labor Act (RLA) issues; and numerous matters before the Departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services. Prior to taking over the Labor Subcommittee, Gary was counsel to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust where he managed domestic and international antitrust matters. Additionally, he handled the subcommittee’s investigations and legislative initiatives in the areas of insurance and reinsurance regulation, savings and loan activities, civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), tort reform, corporate governance and criminal law, and various intellectual property matters.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Gary was a partner in the corporate practice of another international law firm, where he led the government affairs practice. He currently serves as chairman of the advisory board for PREVIEW, a publication on the Supreme Court by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Public Education.
