James (Jim) Alan Gouwar concentrates his practice on the tax aspects of structured finance transactions such as the tax treatment of CDOs (cash and synthetic), asset and mortgage transactions, and other complex financial instruments. Over the years, Jim has been involved in the development of a number of innovative securitization structures and has worked with a broad range of financial assets.
Jim has experience with private equity funds, hedge funds, regulated investment companies, and other pooled investment vehicles. Jim is the co-chair for Introduction to Partnerships at New York University’s Summer Institute in Taxation, and has been involved with this program for more than 15 years.
