John Cosgriff represents health care and life science clients in government investigations and litigation matters, and provides regulatory and compliance guidance to providers, including many large and small hospices, home health agencies, hospitals, physician groups, and pharmacies. John primarily defends clients in complex criminal, civil and administrative fraud and abuse matters before US Attorneys’ Offices, the HHS Office of Inspector General, and state MFCUs. These cases typically involve alleged violations of the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, and the Stark law.
John also advises clients on responses to government program integrity contractor inquiries and related appeals. In addition to his False Claims Act defense work, he assists clients in transactional health care matters to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. He performs regulatory due diligence prior to acquisitions, joint ventures, and mergers. John also has experience in counseling emerging life science companies on the establishment of their compliance programs.
John also maintains a general litigation practice, particularly focused on appealing administrative decisions and regulations. He works with corporate clients in the energy, manufacturing, and financial industries in large-scale litigations, frequently helping to implement electronic discovery strategies in collaboration with the firm’s unique eData practice.
