Laurie J. Nelson focuses her practice on structured finance and securitization. Laurie counsels financial institutions and investment banking firms on numerous transactions, including mortgage-backed securities issuances, resecuritizations of financial assets, net interest margin transactions, whole loan mortgage sales, and related regulatory matters.

Laurie has experience in registered public offerings and private placements of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), and resecuritizations of previously issued RMBS. She has also represented the operating trust advisor in various commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) transactions. Laurie's mortgage-backed experience involves all types of mortgage loans including prime jumbo, seasoned, and non-performing loans. She also has experience representing clients in whole loan mortgage transactions and in the sale of mortgage servicing rights (MSRs). In addition, she has represented CDO collateral managers in a variety of collateral debt restructurings and asset sales.

Laurie maintains an active pro bono practice and has been recognized for her work in this area by the Pro Bono Project New Orleans. In addition, she is involved in the Committee of Seventy’s election monitoring efforts in Philadelphia.

Laurie returns to Morgan Lewis after a decade at another international law firm.

While attending law school, Laurie was on the dean’s honor list, won "Best Paper" for Cyberlaw & Policy and Distinguished Performance for Trial Advocacy, was a Trial Advocacy teaching assistant, and was graduation class speaker.
