Lynette Chew focuses on civil commercial litigation, arbitration, and mediation. In over 20 years of practice in disputes resolution, Lynette has been involved in many high value matters and successfully represented clients Singapore High Court and the Court of Appeal. She also acts as counsel in arbitrations administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). She represents clients in a wide range of civil commercial disputes, including matters involving international commercial/ transactional disputes, shareholders disputes, trade, investment, project insurance, employment related disputes, and in particular construction engineering and infrastructure disputes.
Lynette’s work involves a significant amount of non-contentious work. Her experience in commercial disputes enables her to advice clients to manage commercial risks and disputes in their transactions effectively. Lynette acted for the lead mezzanine and equity investor participating in a capital raise for an Australian satellite company exceeding US$600 million.
Lynette’s well-rounded understanding of the construction and insurance industries allows her to provide tailored advice beyond dispute resolution. For example, she often advises clients on front-end construction contracts and insurance issues, including project insurance coverage and claims in builders and contractors risk policies, as well as fire and other general policies. Lynette acted as project counsel for one of the largest integrated resort developments in Singapore exceeding S$6 billion, the first intended commercial Tier 4 data centre in Singapore.
Lynette works on landmark matters in Singapore, and she also serves clients with business projects in China, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar. In addition, developers, main contractors, as well as MNCs both within and outside Singapore, and contractors and consultants, including statutory boards and government-linked companies (GLC) seek out Lynette to help guide them through the negotiations that can be expected in large-scale projects.
Lynette is a Fellow of Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Examples of Lynette’s work include defending the project insurer in arbitration in one of the largest insurance claims in Singapore that resulted from the Nicoll Highway collapse, successfully defending one of the largest adjudication claims made under Singapore’s Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act; and successfully representing clients in various shareholder disputes.
