Megan R. Whisler represents companies and their officers and directors in connection with government investigations and enforcement proceedings initiated by federal and state agencies. Her practice also includes assisting clients with respect to private securities litigation and appellate and complex commercial litigation before state and federal courts throughout the nation.
Megan's experience includes counseling clients in connection with investigations by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Department of Justice, other federal agencies, and their state counterparts with regard to, among other things, allegations of securities fraud based on primary and secondary theories of liability, allegations of misapplication or embezzlement of bank funds, and alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
Megan also has experience representing clients—in particular, banks and other financial institutions—in connection with securities class actions and complex issues in multiforum litigation in state and federal court. She frequently realizes significant gains for her clients in the early stages of litigation by disposing of, or substantially narrowing, claims before discovery even commences. With respect to her appellate practice, Megan's experience includes assisting with and drafting briefs before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Megan was a litigation associate at another international law firm in Dallas, where she represented a Texas inmate on death row and successfully secured a mandate from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in November 2014 overturning his conviction and ordering a new trial.
While attending University of Michigan Law School, Megan served on both the Michigan Journal of Race & Law and the Michigan Journal of Gender & Law, and also served as a summer law clerk to Judge William T. Lawrence of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
