Melissa Y. Boey focuses her practice on domestic and cross-border corporate restructuring and related litigation. Melissa has experience advising large financial institutions, noteholder groups, indenture trustees, distressed debt investors, and trade creditors in restructurings both in and out of court.  She also has experience representing clients in bankruptcy litigation and other commercial disputes.

Prior to working in California, Melissa served as a law clerk to Judge Christopher S. Sontchi in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. She also worked in Morgan Lewis’ New York office for several years.

Selected Representations

  • Represents Deutsche Bank in multiple litigations with Lehman Chapter 11 debtors, including in the Second Circuit
  • Represented two money center banks in their capacities as indenture trustee of certain mortgage-backed securities trusts in connection with the Chapter 11 case of Ditech Holding Corporation
  • Represented the Mexican affiliates of Mossi & Ghisolfi International in connection with Chapter 11 case of M&G USA Corp., et al.
  • Represents three former executives of SunEdison, Inc. as claimants in the bankruptcy case and in state and federal court
  • Represented the independent director of one of the victimized investment funds, and the investment advisor to numerous limited partners, in connection with the collapse and liquidation proceedings of Abraaj Holdings and Abraaj Investment Management Limited
  • Represented an ad hoc group of creditors of OAS, S.A., in connection with its Brazilian restructuring and attendant Chapter 15 US proceeding
  • Represented the joint official liquidators of two Cayman Islands-based funds in connection with Chapter 15 proceedings as well as litigation against managers of funds brought by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission
  • Represented multiple buyers in connection with the acquisition of various solar projects and related assets through SunEdison, Inc.’s bankruptcy sales
  • Represents multiple buyers and sellers in bankruptcy claims trades
  • Represented multiple environmental organizations and artistic/theatrical organizations in obtaining tax-exemption under Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code and on related nonprofit governance issues (pro bono)
