Mike Pickett counsels clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including single-asset and portfolio sales and acquisitions, equity investments and joint ventures, financings for borrowers and lenders as well as real estate debt restructurings. Mike’s clients include real estate developers, investors and operators, banks and other financial institutions, and pension and other fund advisers. According to Chambers USA, “his legal prowess is top-notch, his organizational skills have been nothing short of perfect, and he is pleasant interacting with the other side.” In addition, Mike is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL).
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Michael was a partner in the real estate practice of another international law firm, where he was deputy co-chair. Before that, he was an asset manager with a District of Columbia bank holding company, concentrating in real estate loan workouts, restructures, foreclosures, and bankruptcies.
Represented The JBG Companies in connection with numerous real estate aspects of the July 18, 2017 combination of certain JBG-affiliated fund assets with the Vornado REIT DC real estate portfolio, creating JBG SMITH Properties, a publicly traded REIT on the NYSE (JBGS).
Represented the seller in connection with the 2017 sale of 900 16th St. NW in Washington, DC, a 122,362-square-foot, newly constructed, trophy office building with first-floor retail which garnered, the highest price psf for a DC office sale. The sale of the project concluded more than seven years of work on the Project which won the Washington Business Journal’s Best New Office Development Award in 2016 and was a 2017 Deal of the Year honoree.
Represented the borrower in connection with the $80 million refinancing of the project known as Notch 8, a 253-unit apartment project located in Potomac Yard Town Center, Alexandria, Virginia.
Represented the developer/sponsor on connection with a joint-venture for the development of a budgeted $130-million, and two-phased mixed use development project in Reston, Virginia.
Represented the lender in connection with a $42 million bridge loan for four (4) retail condominium units located in SoHo, New York City.
Represented the buyer in the acquisition of the 398-unit apartment community known as The Manor at CityPlace located in Doral, Florida.
Represented the developer in connection with the joint venture equity funding and a $147.600 million construction loan for a 30-story unit multifamily residential tower and mixed-use project located in Rosslyn, Virginia.
Represented the seller in connection with the sale of a NoMa area, District of Columbia mixed-use project just constructed, consisting of a 303-unit multifamily residential development, a Walmart Supercenter and ancillary retail.
Our firm represented our long-time client from Ireland as US counsel in connection with an approximately €250 million refinance Credit Facility. As part of our representation, we coordinated several US corporate mergers and dissolutions and negotiated and handled the United States real estate collateral package.
Represented a local hotel sponsor in connection with a $33.9 million construction loan, and then a recapitalization of the Homewood Suites by Hilton located in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood of downtown Washington, DC, directly across from the Navy Yard Metro station, one block from Nationals Park.
