Meredith E. Riccio focuses her practice on the representation of employers in eCommerce, retail, food and beverage, auto, consumer products, and manufacturing industries in all areas of employment law, including the FLSA and its state counterparts, the NLRA, Title VII, federal and state WARN Acts, the ADEA and OWBPA, the ADA, the Equal Pay Act, and biometric privacy laws. Meredith consults and manages complex matters for her clients, including workforce and policy and process changes, and she handles training, investigations, and internal and external audits. Meredith also routinely defends her clients in both class and collective actions and individual actions in U.S. federal courts, state courts, and agency proceedings (including the NLRB and EEOC) across the country.
A cornerstone of Meredith’s practice involves counseling her clients on joint employment and independent contractor issues, as well as advising clients on NLRA issues in non-unionized settings. Meredith has spent considerable time on assignment or seconded to Fortune 500 companies, stepping into the shoes of in-house counsel to handle a variety of labor and employment issues. In 2018, Meredith received the Firm’s Exceptional Client Service Award for her work with an auto manufacturer, which resulted in extensive changes to its workforce. Meredith also conducts trainings for clients and lectures at relevant conferences, including the Firm’s Labor Law West and Collective Bargaining Conferences.
Meredith is also actively involved in Firm activities. Formerly the Chair of the Chicago Associates’ Committee, Meredith now serves as the Chicago Liaison for the Global Committee on Associates. She also serves on the Chicago Hiring Committee, the Chicago New Office Steering Committee, and the Chicago Bar Foundation Committee. Meredith served as the Summer Associate Assignment Coordinator for the Chicago office, and is a Summer Associate Mentor.
Meredith maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients with issues relating to civil rights, employment, immigration, education, and veterans’ affairs. While in law school, Meredith served as Vice President of the Myra Bradwell Association for Women Law Students and as a Teaching Assistant for legal writing classes.
