Ryan Montgomery advises clients with respect to employee benefits and executive compensation. Ryan drafts and assists with equity plans and compensation arrangements, deferred compensation plans, tax-qualified pension and profit-sharing plans, bonus plans, and employment agreements. He also represents clients in audits and inquiries by the US Department of Labor, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. In addition, Ryan frequently represents public and private companies and senior executives with benefits and compensation issues in mergers and acquisitions and spin-off transactions.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ryan was a tax and employee benefits associate at an international law firm in Boston. He also previously worked as a registered lobbyist and advocated on behalf of benefits-related trade associations and benefit plan service providers.
Before entering private practice, Ryan served as an attorney at the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board where he counseled the Board on tax, investment, and employee benefit matters related to the Federal Thrift Savings Plan. Prior to working at the Board, he served as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation where he litigated cases on behalf of the agency.
