Zheng Li, Ph.D., advises clients primarily in patent litigation, prelitigation disputes, US Patent Office Post-Grant Proceedings, patent prosecution, and due diligence concerning IP issues in transactions. He is an experienced patent attorney who has practiced before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and understands both legal and technical issues to better serve clients. Zheng holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with an in-depth knowledge of wireless communications. He is fluent in both Mandarin and English.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Zheng worked for US law firms for more than six years in North Carolina where he provided legal opinions and gained experience in US and international patent preparation and prosecution. Zheng has handled patents related to a wide range of technologies including wireless communications, computer software, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, virtualization, data security, image processing, 3D graphics, computer storage systems, renewable energy, optical systems, semiconductor, and integrated circuits.
Before starting his legal career, Zheng was a post-doctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he worked on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications for General Motors. He is the first inventor of several issued US patents in General Motors' patent portfolio on vehicular communications.
Zheng earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of Delaware with a concentration on wireless communications, garnering outstanding academic achievements during his doctoral study. His research on multi-antenna and relay technologies are among the top downloaded articles in major Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journals including IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Signal Processing letters. His research works have been cited more than 500 times. He also served as a reviewer for major IEEE journals in the communications area.
