University Administrators Prepare: Renewed Efforts to Organize Graduate Teaching Assistants on the Horizon

Tuesday, October 5, 2010
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time

Please join Morgan Lewis's Traditional Labor team for an interactive webcast presentation and group discussion of potential changes in the law and at the NLRB that could enable union organizing campaigns among graduate teaching assistants at private sector colleges and universities.

Unions are renewing efforts to organize graduate teaching assistants and have petitioned the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to reconsider its decision in Brown University, 342 NLRB 483 (2004), which held that graduate teaching assistants are not employees who have the right to organize under the National Labor Relations Act. The Board, newly reconfigured appointed by the Obama administration, may soon take up the issue in a case involving graduate teaching assistants at New York University.
