01:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

Morgan Lewis senior counsel Michael Berenson and partner Christopher Parlo will be participating in the Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC)'s annual meeting.

On Monday, May 16, senior counsel Michael Berenson is a panelist on "Current Product Development-Trends and Issues for Variable Annuities". This panel will discuss recent insurance company approaches to de-risking the death benefit and living benefit guarantees in their variable annuity products, and possible regulatory issues implicated by these approaches. It will also discuss recently developed low-cost variable annuity products, including use of ETFs as investment options.

On Tuesday, May 17, partner Christopher A. Parlo is a panelist on "How to Survive or Avoid Employment Wage and Hour Litigation: Independent Contractors or Employees? Exempt or Non-Exempt Employees? Permissible or Prohibited Expense Deductions?" The panel will provide practical advice on how to avoid being sued under the Fair Labor Standards Act and similar state laws, how to maintain the distinctions between employees and independent contractors and between exempt and non-exempt employees, how to determine which expense deductions are permissible and which are prohibited, and what lessons have been learned from defending employment wage and hour litigation.
