The IRS has been actively engaged in examining the reimbursement practices of healthcare staffing operations. With a broad net cast, it is clear that the IRS will fine tune their examination procedures and understanding of the industry dynamics for future endeavors. These will not be limited to corporate audits; the practices gleaned from the examination of staffing agencies will provide additional benchmarks for audits of traveler employees and vice versa.
Numerous elements of industry reimbursement practices have come to light during this process. One thing that is certain is that there is significant need for clarification by the IRS of the rules applicable to reimbursements of travel expenses in the healthcare staffing industry. In this session, our experts will use the "best practices" guidelines from the National Association of Travel Healthcare Organizations (NATHO) as well as lessons learned from recent audits to highlight areas subject to special IRS scrutiny for the industry as a whole.
