One of the hallmarks of ERISA is the symbiotic co-existence of harsh prohibitions against related party transactions and fiduciary conflicts of interest, coupled with an array of exceptions or exemptions tempering the harshness of those prohibitions. In many respects, a better understanding of normal plan administration and investment practices can be gained by examining those exemptions rather than the underlying prohibitions. This teleconference will review the major prohibited transaction exemptions that facilitate day-to-day plan administrative and investment operations.
