2016 IP Academy Series: Patentable subject matter

August 12, 2016
04:30 PM - 05:30 PM ET

Last month, the US Supreme Court denied a petition to review the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s determination of patent-ineligibility in Ariosa Diagnostics, Inc. v. Sequenom, Inc. In recent months, however, the Federal Circuit overturned district court decisions that certain patents were directed to patent-ineligible subject matter, which has finally shed some light on what would be determined patent-eligible rather than patent-ineligible.

Please join us as we review the recent guidelines from the courts and the practical use of the currently available USPTO examination guidelines for obtaining patents.

Topics will include:

  • A review of patentable subject matter
  • Recent cases regarding patentable subject matter
  • Practical tips for the use of USPTO’s examination guidelines
