The advent of the Internet, with widespread posting on primary websites and social media sites by individuals and businesses of photographs, graphic art images, and text, and the simplicity and ease of copying those photographs, graphic art images, and text - along with the use of sophisticated, trackable technological fingerprints often embedded in them - dramatically increases the risk of being found liable for copyright infringement damages and attorneys’ fees.

Businesses need to understand the risks that this technological advance creates, what internal practices and policies may help avoid attendant liabilities, and what staff training may be needed to facilitate and underscore those preventive measures – as well as what steps businesses may take to protect their own materials from infringement.

CLE credit: CLE credit in CA, FL, IL, NJ (via reciprocity), NY, PA, TX, and VA is currently pending approval.
