Administering leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act can prove to be a challenge to even the most sophisticated and experienced employer. With the expansion of leave rights through recent regulations as well as court interpretations of the FMLA, such challenges continue to mount. Further, administering FMLA leave along with other forms of leave (e.g., ADA, workers compensation and short term disability) can pose additional challenges, particularly when more than one administrator or decision maker is involved. This topic will provide a detailed overview of the FMLA as it has changed over the past few years and provide practical advice on compliance with the FMLA.
