Recap of developments in FERC enforcement activities and litigation.

Despite FERC’s absence in quorum for much of calendar year 2017, its Office of Enforcement continued its mission of pursuing significant and groundbreaking enforcement actions against energy market participants. The Office of Enforcement also assessed, pursued, or settled millions of dollars in civil penalties and disgorgement from enforcement targets in 2017. FERC’s enforcement efforts concerned both electric and gas sectors, and FERC’s penalty assessments reached conduct that occurred both within and beyond organized markets.
