Morgan Lewis is pleased to continue our series of monthly webinars specifically designed for businesses that operate in the State of California.

Each webinar will take place on the first Wednesday of  the month, 9:00–10:00 am PT/12:00–1:00 pm ET.

In the space of a few days last June, the California legislature enacted sweeping legislation that dramatically alters procedures and administration of the state’s tax system. Under the new law, effective July 1st, most disputes over state taxes and fees will be adjudicated by the newly-established “Office of Tax Appeals,” and many administrative functions of the Board of Equalization (BOE) have been transferred to a second new entity called the “California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.” We will review the impact of this historic shift on different taxes and fees and discuss how the new procedures are being implemented.

Topics will include:

  • Overview of BOE activities affecting entities doing business in the Golden State.
  • Why there was a shake-up.
  • Changes to the BOE in a nutshell.
  • As-yet unknowns: Regulations, Appeals panel members, and other essentials.
  • Q&A.
