2018 IP Academy Series: Introduction to European Patent Litigation & all about Venues

Friday, June 8, 2018

Join us for two great discussions about European patent litigation and US law on proper venues for foreign corporations.

A reception will follow after the discussion.

SESSION 1 | Introduction to European Patent Litigation

Following our seminar last month about US patent litigation, we will review the European patent litigation system and compare it with the US practice. We will discuss where to bring a patent law suit and the steps in European litigation procedure.

SESSION 2 | All About Venues

Despite the US Supreme Court’s decision in TC Heartland to limit venue shopping for patent cases, this decision explicitly did not apply to foreign corporations. The Federal Circuit recently clarified the proper venue for foreign corporations in In re HTC Corp., No. 2018-130 (Fed. Cir. May 9, 2018) and further defined the judicial district in which domestic companies can reside in In re BigCommerce Inc., No. 2018-120 (Fed. Cir. May 15, 2018). Please join us to review and discuss US law and recent cases about venue.
